Pex plastic or brass fittings?

I am starting to replace our copper hot/cold water supply lines with PEX . (every few months we seem to be getting pinhole leaks in the copper pipe original to the house 40 to 50 years old)....what would be better for durability the plastic or brass? I am leaning more towards brass fittings in case of freeze up near the walls in the basement.
