Looking for a good day out or site seeing in and around manchester area.?

anybody know any good day out places. or even nice places to site see and walk, maybe near a castle :) or something. near manchester? does not have to be within manchester. could be a train journey away. but aslong as the train faire aint a arm and a leg price.
