How do I load Kodak Professional 400 NC negative film into my pinhole camera?

I got a pinhole camera for Christmas and a pack of the above mentioned film. It says I don't have to open the film in a dark room, but I opened it and one side is black, and one is brown. I don't know if I've already exposed it and messed it up. Can someone please help me, I can't find much information on this, and I've searched endlessly.
